Your goal

To produce the best product possible using the high precision laser and materials to their fullest, but not beyond their capabilities.

Minimum feature size

Features smaller than 0.040” (1mm) are likely to be quite fragile. Check the minimum size measurements on each material page in the materials catalog.

Minimum part size

Parts smaller than 0.236” (6mm) can fall through the laser bed and be lost. Check the minimum parts size measurements on each material page in the materials catalog.

Minimum engraving area

Raster area engraving is not very crisp on text and thin areas less than 0.040” (1mm). This is more noticeable the smaller the text gets. Improve the quality of the engraving by combining area and line engraving on your text or shapes to make them stand out.

Breathing room

When cut lines are placed too close together, there may be little or no material left between them after the laser burns the material away, so give yourself at least 0.040” (1mm) between elements in your design.

Material thickness can vary from material sheet to sheet

Known as ‘thickness tolerance’, you can find these measurements on each material page in the materials catalog.

Kerf can vary from material sheet to sheet

‘Kerf width’ is the amount of material burned or melted away by the laser beam when it cuts a line. You can find kerf width ranges on each material page in the materials catalog.
